Needles, CA: New City Manager for the City of Needles?

During a Needles City Council Meeting held on Tuesday, July 23rd, 2013, members of the Needles City Council Meeting announced Rick Daniels to become the new city manager for the City of Needles in Needles, California.

This is subject to final contract provisions which would come back to members of the Needles City Council at a meeting in August 2013.

Rick Daniels met with members of the Needles City Council in executive session before the Needles City Council Meeting where the announcement was made to the public.

This would replace acting the current Needles City Manager seat being held by David Brownlee.

** Here is what we found so far about Rick Daniels: **

– Rick Daniels has reportedly worked for local government for a number of years.

– Rick Daniels worked as a Director of Community Development in Gresham, Oregon, Director of Land Use and Transportation in Washington County, Oregon, and Vice President as well as General Manager of Oregon Waste Systems Inc. and Washington Waste Systems Inc.

– Rick Daniels earned his Bachelor of Science at the University of Oregon in 1974.

– Rick Daniels worked in a variety of city government departments in Portland, Oregon from 1974 to 1979 which included experience in managing planning, economic development, and public works capacities.

– Rick Daniels then served as Director of Community Development in the City of Gresham, Oregon from 1979 to 1980 where he took on many responsibilities which included preparing building and land use regulations to allow for greater economic opportunity in Gresham.

– Rick Daniels then became the Director of Land Use and Transportation in Washington County, Oregon in 1980 where he worked to facilitate as department head of a planning, transportation, and public works agency.

– Rick Daniels accepted a position as the Vice President and General Manager of Oregon in 1987 where he was the department head of a public works agency in a county experiencing rapid growth and led important economic developments for the cities in this county.

– Rick Daniels reportedly chose to take a position as the Vice President and General Manager of Oregon Waste Systems, Inc. and Washington Waste Systems, Inc. in Portland, Oregon, in 1987 where he carried out the duties related to the $40 million Columbia Ridge Landfill in Arlington, Oregon.

– In 1989, Rick Daniels directed a $150 million capital program for Waste Management of North America and served as the Capital Projects Director. He reportedly helped create landfill and recovery facilities in Arizona, California and Nevada.

– Rick Daniels accepted a position as the President and CEO of Mine Reclamation Corporation located in Palm Desert, California and for ten years, dedicated his time and efforts to the help the corporation generate a solid waste landfill for the state of California.

– In 2001, Rick Daniels decided to branch out into his own professional venture, by creating Richard A. Daniels, Inc. This private corporation developed multimillion dollar business plans and helped identify unique business opportunities for private interests and public agencies seeking economic growth. Although he managed his own private company until 2007.

– Rick Daniels also served as the President and CEO of the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership from 2004 to 2005.

– Rick Daniels reportedly the City Manager for the community of Desert Hot Springs, California and has been the City Manager since 2007 where he worked to bring about major improvements to the community and cared about the Desert Hot Springs’ appearance, safety, and the well being of its citizens.

– In 2010, according to a news story report from ABC affiliate KESQ Channel 3, Rick Daniels was reportedly placed on medical leave after announcing he was entering a rehab facility to deal with alcoholism.

– On Tuesday, June 25th, 2013, according to a news story report from The Desert Sun, Rick Daniels reportedly accused 2 City Council members of creating a “hostile” work environment through what he called “bullying and abhorrent behavior.”

– Just recently, according to a news story report from ABC affiliate KESQ Channel 3 talking about the Desert Hot Springs City Manager Rick Daniels looking for a new job, ABC affiliate KESQ Channel 3 reports that an outside attorney is investigating claims from Rick Daniels that city council members Russell Betts and Adam Sanchez are “bullying” him.

The investigation is reportedly costing the City of Desert Hot Springs nearly $80,000.
