Needles, CA: Needles City Council approved fare increase for the Needles Area Transit.
During a Needles City Council Meeting held on Tuesday, July 23rd, 2013, members of the Needles City Council Meeting approved a fare increase for ridership on the Needles Area Transit effective Thursday, August 1st, 2013.
This fare increase is reportedly due to the continued increase in fuel and other operating expenses.
The fare increase will reportedly help in the city maintaining the minimum required 10% fare box ratio for the Needles Area Transit.
The fare increase was discussed with McDonald Transit staff and are were in agreement that the fare increase is necessary at this time.
The last fare increase was reportedly happened in August 2008.
**** Here is the list of the new fare increase prices for Needles Area Transit effective Thursday, August 1st, 2013: ****
– Fixed Route Service; Per each boarding: $1.10
– Fixed Route Service; Senior Over 60 Years Old and Persons With Disabilities; Per each boarding: $1.00
– 30 Punch Card Pass; Per each boarding: $31.50
– Route Deviations Service: $1.60
– Route Deviations Service: Over 60 Years Old and Persons With Disabilities; Per each boarding: $1.50

Members of the Needles City Council added to the motion to approve to have more information be provided back regarding the refusing of pennies as payment and the idea of expanding the bus routes to include River Road.
Some of the members of the Needles City Council where questioning why that pennies are no longer being accepted as payment onto the bus by riders which was brought up during public comments on this agenda item.
Cheryl Sallis brought up the issue of riders not putting in the right amount of fare to aboard the bus.
Some of the members of the Needles City Council said that a pennies are still United States currency and such be accepted.
As for the idea of expanding the bus routes to include stops along River Road, that was brought up during public comment by a resident who would like to see the bus route include stops for those who living along River Road who may not have transportation.
Some think that the expanding the bus routes would bring in more riders as well as bring riders to the River Edge Golf Course, Jack Smith Park, and the Colorado River which currently doesn’t have a bus stop at either the River Edge Golf Course or Jack Smith Park and riders would have to walk to those points of interests.
Both of these items will be discussed and the information will be brought back to the members of the Needles City Council at a future Needles City Council Meeting.
