News Update!!: San Bernardino, CA: Person identified in shooting of a peace office in San Bernardino, California.
A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Deputy was shot and wounded after exchanging gunfire with suspects in a vehicle Tuesday morning in San Bernardino, California.
Late Tuesday, Investigators identified the suspect as 33 year old Miguel Alvarez of San Bernardino, California.
Miguel Alvarez was interviewed and later booked at West Valley Detention Center for Attempted Murder with bail set at $1,000,000.
Investigators have not identified a motive in this shooting.
According to a press release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, at around 10:11am PT on Tuesday, July 16th, 2013, 2 San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Deputies assigned to Court Services Division arrived at a residence in the 1400 block of East Date Street in San Bernardino, California to serve an eviction notice.
While the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Deputies were still in their marked patrol units, a suspect vehicle drove past and opened fire, striking the driver’s side of the unit and the deputy. Both deputies were able to exit their patrol cars and return fire at the suspect.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Deputy was transported to Linda University Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries and later released.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Deputy is reportey described as a 24 year San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Veteran.
Within minutes, a San Bernardino Police Officer located the suspect vehicle, described as a silver Kia Sedan with 4 doors, and the driver in the area of Elmwood Road just south of Highland Avenue.
The unidentified adult male driver is in custody and being interviewed and the suspect’s vehicle is being processed at the scene.
Investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Detail responded to the location and are conducting the investigation.
