Traffic Alert!!: Elysian Park, CA: Tranker truck fire closes northbound Interstate 5.

All lanes of northbound Interstate 5 and 2 lanes of southbound Interstate 5 at the interchange of Highway 2 in Elysian Park, California remain closed Monday after a large tanker truck crash and fire.

Southbound Highway 2 is also closed at the Interstate 5.

Traffic is heavy in the area around the closure.

Caltrans continues to work on the repairs to the freeway after the fire cause some damage to the roadway and hopes to have the freeways back open by Tuesday.

The closures comes after Saturday’s fiery tanker truck crash.

According to Caltrans, a tanker truck full of fuel tipped over at the underpass freeways connecter.

The fire compromised the structural integrity of the underpass causing the freeways to be closed.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, 8500 gallons of gas spilled, with most of it burning up in the fire.

The rest of the fuel spilled into a near by storm drain and then caused 2 smaller fires as the fuel flowed into channel along the Los Angeles River.

Drivers are advised to stay away from the closure area and to take public transportation if possible.
