Breaking News!!: Washington, DC: United States Supreme Court rules on affirmative action.

The United States Supreme Court on Monday has made their decision in the case of Fisher vs. University of Texas which deals with race and university admissions.

The United States Supreme Court set aside the Fifth Circuit ruling that upheld the University’s Admissions policy, which considered race as a factor, and sent the case back to the lower court.

In the United States Supreme Court’s decision, “the reviewing court must ultimately be satisfied that no workable race-neutral alternatives would produce the educational benefits of diversity.”

Fisher vs. University of Texas asked the court to decide if the admissions policy of the University could use race as one of many factors for admission.

The 2 plaintiffs in the case, both white women, argue that they were denied admission to the University of Texas due to their race.

The United States District Court upheld the legality of the University’s admissions policy, and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals concurred.

The court is expected to release additional opinions on at least two more days this week.
