Boulder City, NV: A person is dead and 5 people rescued in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Saturday evening, a person is dead and 5 people were rescued in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.


Lake Mead National Recreation Area Emergency Responders launched a search at around 1:10pm PT on Saturday after received a report from Mohave County Sheriff’s Office that 4 Boy Scouts were lost near Arizona Hot Springs.

At around 2:21pm PT, there was another report called in of 2 adults accompanying by the Boy Scouts were suffering from heat stroke around the same area.

At around 3:21pm PT, Park Rangers from the Lake Mead National Recreation Area made contact with one of the adult males identified as 69 year old Clawson Bowman Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada about a mile from the trailhead and was pronounced dead at the scene.

At 3:42pm PT, search and rescue teams found the second adult male and was provided advanced life support care until he was air evacuated at around 5:54pm PT and flown to a hospital.

As for the 4 Boy Scouts, they maintained phone communication with Lake Mead National Recreation Area Officials until they were located by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Air Support at around 4:59pm PT and later were treated by paramedics.

Many different agencies including Lake Mohave Ranchos Fire District and American Medical Response (AMR) River Medical assisted in the searches.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area Officials are saying that hiking in these extreme temperatures is highly discouraged which the temperature at the lake and and park was around 110*F and the National Weather Services issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the Lake Mead area which expired at around 8:00pm PT on Sunday.
