A 4 story building collapses onto a 1 story Salvation Army Thrift Store located at 2140 Market Street and is on the southeast corner Market Street and South 22nd Street.
Good Samaritans jumped into action as first responders raced from a fire station just down the street.
At least 6 person are reportedly dead and 13 people have been rescued and have been taken to local hospitals with minor injuries after a building collapsed onto another building in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Late Wednesday, search and rescue crews pulled a woman alive from the rubble of the building collapse.
There is no confirm information to how many people were inside the open thrift store.
First responders, search and rescue crews, and construction workers worked feverishly to find survivors.
Philadelphia’s Counter-Terrorism Task Force is on the scene along with all the major utility companies.
Witnesses felt the 4 story building collapse then seen first responders racing to the scene.
According to Philadelphia Fire Department Commissioner Lloyd Ayers, 125 people were working to locate survivors and they were using 35 different pieces of equipment in the search.
City of Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter is asking the public to please avoid the area from the Ben Franklin Parkway to Walnut Street and from 18th Street to the Schuylkill River so that first responders and search and rescue crews can continue rescue work.
Market Street is closed between 18th Street to 30th Street.
According to Philadelphia Fire Department Officials, the building next door to the collapse was under demolition.
According to the demolition permit from Philadelphia’s Licenses and Inspections, that building was a 4 story structure.
According to City Officials, there were no existing violations on the property and the contractor conducting the demolition had a license.
According to Occupational Safety and Health Administration Officials, they were aware of the incident and would be launching an investigation.
