– United States President Barack Obama toured communities damaged by Hurricane Sandy on Thursday.

 

The United States President Barack Obama began his visit with a helicopter tour over some of the areas hit hard from Hurricane Sandy including the communities of Breezy Point, New York where over 100 homes were burned to the ground and the community of Staten Island, New York where many people are struggling to survive without heat and power well angry and frustrated by their slow response to the power outages.

 

United States President Barack Obama praised first responders, volunteers, and sanitation workers who are working tirelessly in helping people affected by Hurricane Sandy get back on their feet and rebuild their lives.

 

During difficult times like this, we’re reminded that we’re bound together and we have to look out for each other. And a lot of the things that seem important, the petty differences melt away, and we focus on what binds us together and that we as Americans are going to stand with each other in their hour of need, “ said United States President Barack Obama.

 

United States President Barack Obama has directed his Administration to continued to bring all available resources to bear to support our state and local partners as they continue to respond and recover from Hurricane Sandy.

 

– According to ABC affiliate WABC Channel 7, dangerous living conditions caused by Hurricane Sandy inside public housing after the power has come back on to all New York City, New York public housing buildings.

 

– As the power is restored to all New York City, New York public housing buildings, a new and dangerous problem is facing those who are living inside the those New York City, New York public housing buildings.

 

Deplorable conditions with no heat, no hot water, and disease carrying bugs.

 

The people living inside those New York City, New York public housing buildings are now sounding the alarm on this growing public health crisis.

 

– New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has launched an investigation into the performance of Long Island Power Authority and Con Edisdon during Hurricane Sandy.

 

– New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced on last Monday a $500 million emergency plan to pay for critical and needed repairs to New York City area public schools and hospitals damaged from Hurricane Sandy.

 

The plan would allocate $200 million for the Department of Education and $300 million for the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation to repair extensive damage.

 

The repairs would include structural restorations, new boilers, new electrical systems and roof repairs.

 

The New York City Council will vote on the emergency plan on Tuesday.

 

According to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, $134 million has already been spent on storm related emergency relief efforts.

 

– According to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, the economic loss to New York caused by Hurricane Sandy’s is estimated at $30 billion.
