Proposed reduction in pay and benefits on City Employees.

  

Needles, CA: On Tuesday, September 25th, 2012, the proposed reduction in pay and benefits on City Employees came front and center during Public Appearance at the Needles City Council Meeting.

 

 

A City Employees who works for the City of Needles and would be effected by those cuts talk about the proposed reduction in pay and benefits as well as what effects these cut will do to both the hard working City Employees and the community of Needles, California.

 

 

The Needles City Council had an Executive Session regarding contract dispute between City of Needles and City Employees in Needles, California. Minutes later, no reportable action was done according to City of Needles Clerk Dale Jones.

 

 

Many in Needles, California are unhappy with the Needles City Council for trying to balance the budget on the back of these City Employees and are concern what will happen if the Needles City Council approves these cuts on City Employees.

 

 

Many local businesses in Needles, California have posted banners in support of the City Employees.

The paper handed to Needles City Council Members is title “An Example of What Council is asking the Employees to take” and shows the following information:

If you are paid $24.66 per hour which is $3,945.00 per month and $52,293.00 per year.

 

 

Exhibit 2012-1213 (October 1st) takes the employees down 23% to:

 

$18.99 per hour which is $3,292.00 per month and $39,944.00 per year.

 

 

Minus 5% Furlough would be less another:

 

$165.00 per month and $1,974.00 per year.

 

 

Minus 7% Paying Cal-Pers would be less another:

 

$299.00 per month and $3,590.00 per year.

 

 

Minus Medical Insurance would be less another:

 

$128.00 per month (Currently) and $1,536.00 per year.

 

(Another Increase January 2013 unknown cost to employees)

 

 

Taking Away Holidays, Sick Hour Accrual, and Vacation Accrual:

 

$4,143.00 per year in Benefits.

 

 

Exhibit 2013-1214 (2013) takes the employees down another 10% to:

 

$16.99 per hour which is $2,936.00 per month and $35,235.00 per year.

 

 

$12,794.00 (Wages)

$1,974.00 (Furlough)

$3,590.00 (Retirement)

$1,536.00 (Medical)

$1,143.00 (UnPaid Holidays, Sick and Vacation)

$24,037.00 Total

 

 

$52,293.00 – $24,037.00 = $28,256.00 or 48%
