Needles, CA: At around 12:40pm PT on Saturday, September 22, 2012, a group of people were riding personal water craft approximately 1 mile south of Jack Smith Park on the Colorado River in Needles, California.
58 year old Deanna Loy Lewis, a resident of Mead, Washington and a companion had stopped to wait for other members of their party and were floating southbound when Deanna Loy Lewis was struck by another personal water craft knocking Deanna Loy Lewis off the water craft into the Colorado River.
A passing boat with a doctor on it stopped to render aid and transported Deanna Loy Lewis to Jack Smith Park.
Deanna Loy Lewis was transported to the Colorado River Medical Center in Needles, California were she was pronounced dead at 1:31pm PT.
The Marine Enforcement Unit of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident.
