News Update!!!: Needles, CA: The Latest News On The Brush Fire Burning Near Jack Smith Park In Needles.

 

 

The brush fire burning near Jack Smith Park in Needles, California is reported to be 60% contained.

 

 

At around 7:00pm PT Monday afternoon, dry lightning from a passing monsoon storm spark a very large brush fire just southeast of Jack Smith Park.

 

The fire is burning in an area of large trees, brush, and thick vegetation running along the shore of the Colorado River. The burn area is known to have pockets of homeless campers and camping spots for those wanting to camp away from the crowds.

 

 

Homes in the Verde Shores Estates area near Jack Smith Park were told to be ready to evacuate if the time needs to come.

 

Jack Smith Park was evacuated and was closed into the night. Roads going into Jack Smith Park were closed to traffic including River Road at Marina Drive, Smith Road at East Broadway, Ice Plant Road at East Broadway, and Santa Fe Road which runs near Jack Smith Park.

 

 

At around 8:00pm PT Monday night, the brush fire jumps the Colorado River into Arizona from California. A fire officials from San Bernardino County Fire Department told ZachNews that the fire burn 50 acres in California and 200 acres in Arizona.

 

 

Fire crews from throughout the Colorado River Tri-State area responded to the brush fire including San Bernardino County Fire Department, Golden Shores Fire Department, Fort Mojave Fire Department, and Arizona Bureau of Land Management.

 

Traffic control around the brush fire was done by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, Fort Mojave Indian Tribe Police Department, and City of Needles Public Works.

 

 

The brush fire hasn’t injured or killed anybody and no structures have been burn in this dry lightning brush fire. Fire crews are working in the Mojave Desert heat with temperatures between 110*F to 115*F in the day time well at night, low temperatures hang between 85*F to 95*F.

 

 

The command center for the brush fire burning near Jack Smith Park was set up at Needles Marina Park on Marina Drive, but now has moved to Jack Smith Park at the end of River Road (Bridge Road).
