Reaction on United States President Barack Obama announcement on supporting same-sex marriage has been coming in with many wanting to have their say about the decision that United States President Barack Obama made.
From Republican United States Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney who said, “My view is that marriage is a relationship between a man and a woman,” to Former Republican United States Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum who said, “The announcement today by President Obama should come as no surprise to the American public. President Obama has consistently fought against protecting the institution of marriage from radical social engineering at both the state and federal level,” and to United State House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi who said, “Today marks progress for the civil rights of LGBT Americans and all Americans. With President Obama’s support, we look forward to the day when all American families are treated equally in the eyes of the law.”
Reaction to United States President Barack Obama announcing his support for same-sex marriage has spread around the country and into Needles, California.
During a Garden Party Mixer at the Needles Four Seasons Nursery in Downtown Needles, California, ZachNews Reporter Zachary Lopez is the first to interview City of Needles Mayor Edward Paget talked about same-sex marriage and his reaction to the decision made by United States President Barack Obama to support same-sex marriage.
ZachNews Reporter Zachary Lopez asked the City of Needles Mayor Edward Paget, “What’s your opinion about the United States President said and your views on same-sex marriage?”
“Well personally, I don’t believe that it is something that really is a matter of presidential discussion; certainly it can be commented on. I myself feel that marriage is between a man and a woman as the Bible outlines and I do support that, but I do think that we should be spending time being more concern on other affairs then rather or not gay marriage should be agreed upon in the United States of America,” said City of Needles Mayor Edward Paget.
ZachNews Reporter Zachary Lopez asked the City of Needles Mayor Edward Paget, “What about banning it (same-sex marriage); should it be ban or should it be up to the church or individual churches to have it, or should it be the choice of the Government to make the decision to legalize or not legalize it?”
“Once again, I don’t believe that this is a matter for the United States Government, this is a matter for State Government and individual States to decide, and that’s the way it is now and I don’t believe that… we have… people if they’re not happy about the State their living in and they want to have a gay marriage relationship, then they… there are plenty of places where that is allowed in that State and they can move to that area, but I think that it’s a matter for State law, not for national law,” said City of Needles Mayor Edward Paget.
ZachNews Reporter Zachary Lopez asked the City of Needles Mayor Edward Paget, “Should the State be allowed to ban same-sex marriage here in California?”
“I think it’s a pure choice of the people of the State of California; they have a right to vote on this issue; it’s been consider before and allowed at one time and then disallowed. Whatever the populist vote is the way it should be; that should be the law of the land,” said City of Needles Mayor Edward Paget.
