Charges Filed on Alleged Gunman in Monday’s Tragic and Deadly School Shooting in Ohio.

Chardon, OH: Charges have been filed against the alleged gunman in last Monday’s tragic and deadly school shooting at Chardon High School in Chardon, Ohio.

Geauga County Prosecuting Attorney David Joyce announced on Thursday charges against 17 year old Thomas TJ Lane. Three juvenile counts of aggravated murder against the accused gunman in Monday’s school shooting.

TJ Lane also faces two juvenile counts of attempted aggravated murder and one juvenile count of felonious assault.

TJ Lane’s initial court appearance is set for Tuesday, March 6th, 2012 at 3pm ET.

Geauga County Juvenile Court Judge Tim Grendell has also set a date of Monday, March 19th, 2012 for a bind over hearing to Geauga County’s adult court.

Under Ohio Law, a 16 or 17-year-old who has been charged with a serious crime, such as murder, must face trial in an adult court.

TJ Lane will not be eligible for the death penalty due to Ohio law that makes it illegal to put a person under the age of 18 to death.

Last Wednesday, a judge released seven pages of juvenile court records on TJ Lane, including an assault case in late 2009 at age 15.

TJ Lane allegedly put a man in a choked hold and punched the man in the face. TJ Lane entered the juvenile court equivalent of a guilty plea to a reduced misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.

TJ Lane was given a suspended sentence of up to 30 days in jail.

The records on that case as well as a traffic ticket from November 2011 for losing control of his vehicle were released by the judge on Wednesday at the request of media outlets.

TJ Lane is accused of opening fire on students in the cafeteria at Chardon High School last Monday morning killing 3 students and wounded 2 others.
