Needles, California: The City of Needles and Needles Chamber of Commerce put together the Wish For Wyatt Taco Benefit Taco Dinner for Wyatt Butterfield and his family last Friday evening.

Donations from local companies and families as well as an army of caring and wonderful volunteers answered the call to help the Wyatt Butterfield and Wyatt’s family by putting on a benefit taco dinner event inside the Needles Recreation Center off of J Street in Needles, California.

Many from Needles, California and throughout the Colorado River Tri-State area came out to show their love and support for Wyatt Butterfield and his family, Jordan and Pilar (Powell) Butterfield.

The parking lots as well as the streets around the Needles Recreation Center were filled up and the line to get inside the benefit dinner stretched outside the doors of the Needles Recreation Center.

Over 700 plates of delicious taco with rice, beans, dessert, and drink were sold at the benefit dinner.

According to Wyatt’s aunt Jessica Sommers, Wyatt Butterfield was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia, a birth defect in liver and is currently a patient at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles where the family is waiting for a liver donor.

According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, “Biliary atresia is a blockage in the tubes (ducts) that carry a liquid called bile from the liver to the gallbladder. The condition is congenital, which means it is present from birth.”

Wyatt’s mother Pilar (Powell) Butterfield is going through testing to find out if she can be that liver donor.

The Wyatt’s family and friends of Wyatt’s family have been driving to and from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in Hollywood, California to be by Wyatt bedside.

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles have been working really hard and doing so much to help Wyatt and his family.

The community of Needles are proud and thankful to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for providing caring and wonderful service to Wyatt and Wyatt’s family.

Christin Rockwood, a Needles Elementary Parent Teacher Association, told ZachNews about how Needles comes together in times of need.

“When there are families in need, the community does come together and do fundraisers and benefit dinners, and this is normally the outcome,” said Christin Rockwood.

Wyatt’s aunt Jessica Sommers was so happy to see that so many people came out to show their love and support for Wyatt.

“I am so thankful for this community, I’m so proud to be a part of this community,” said Jessica Sommers.

When a somebody’s son is in the hospital and is in need of support, when a family is missing their love one along the Colorado River and need help searching for their love one, when a house fire has a family out in the cold and nowhere else to go, or when a high school is falling apart and needs help remodeling their high school, the community of Needles, California answers that call to donate, help, and volunteer to help those in need.

May we all learn to always help out, donate, and volunteer to help those in need and to help our communities shine; may we all never forget or lose that caring helping feeling.
